Keys & Identities
Identities
Save a username with its password or key once and use it on many hosts.
Why use identities
If you sign in to many servers as the same user, for example deploy with the same key, an identity saves you from setting it up on every host. Change the identity, and all hosts that use it pick up the change the next time they connect or reconnect.
Create an identity
- In Keys & Identities, click + New at the top and choose Identity.
- Or, while editing a host, open the menu in the Username field and choose Add Identity….
Enter a name, the username and a password, a key or both, then click Save to create the identity.
Assign it to hosts
- When editing a host, open the menu in the Username field and choose the identity.
- For many hosts at once, use Edit Hosts → Assign Identity.
To stop using an identity on a host, clear it from the Username field and enter the host’s own credentials.
